Gandhiji was a wonderful leader who adhered to the path of truthfulness and believed in ahimsa, or nonviolence. He was a modest man who taught the Indians how to live simply and independently. People of all social classes liked and respected him.

Mahatma Gandhi’s full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest freedom fighter who spent his entire life in the fight for the freedom of India from the British. Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2nd, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat, India.

Gandhi Ji (Bapu) finished his school education in India and went to England for additional study of law. After completing law, he returned to India as a lawyer and he associated with the Indian National Congress to fight against British rule. He started a movement for freedom and worked a lot for the independence of India. Every year we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti on the 2nd of October.

Mahatma Gandhi was arrested and sent to jail many times, but he didn’t stop and continued to fight the British government for the freedom of India. When people saw his struggle, many people stood up against the British rulers, and our country became independent on August 15th, 1947. Mahatma Gandhi lived a very simple and normal life. His dress consisted of a traditional Indian dhoti and a shawl, which he knitted himself on a charkha. He was a great leader with a dream of social reform. Gandhi Ji taught lessons to people for unity.
